Week of January 28

1/27/2019

THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK:  MAJOR SCALES

We're reinforcing the knowledge of Theory A with this week's homework.  Same idea (identify the missing note).  Make sure you get it done before Thursday's quiz.

New homework policy:  homework must be completed by one week after it is due.  After that it will not be accepted.  Entire classes that get homework done by the QUIZ day will automatically get 2 XCR points.

There are a LARGE NUMBER of people who didn't do last week's homework.  Remember to get it done by Thursday or you will be unable to make it up.  See the list at the end of the announcements.

STUDENT INFORMATION FORM
Make sure you fill the online information form out immediately if you didn't already do so

LISTENING PEER EDIT
If you missed the peer edit on Friday, the makeup will be Tuesday at lunch.  Make sure you're ready.

SING SCHEDULE
Be sure to make a note about our schedule for the Spring Concerts:
Thur., 2/28:  6-9 pm rehearsal
Fri., 3/1:  5:30 pm call, 7:30 pm performance
Sat., 3/2: 12:30 pm call, 2 & 7:30 pm performances.  NO ONE LEAVES BETWEEN SHOWS
Dinner provided Friday and Saturday nights.

HARRY POTTER ADVISORY
In my attempt to teach students to love to read, we will be reading (as a group) the first of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" during advisory on Tuesdays.  If you want to strengthen your reading (or just want to read along with us), please bring your copy of the book and join us.

If you're in favor of this cause and want to support us, I would like a few copies of the book to have on hand.  Given the current craze of house cleaning and purging, it might be available from a thrift store for those who have the time to check!  Please send your book donations to my classroom.  Thank you for supporting this important goal.

BELLS ON WEDNESDAYS!
The response to our piece for bells and choir at the Winter Concert was amazing!  We are going to start a bell-ringing group for those interested.  For now, we will practice on Wednesdays during advisory, to teach everyone the basics and to figure out who is interested.  From there, I will split you into groups if there are more than 12 people interested.  No experience is required!  We will start this week.

REAL GROUP RAFFLE
Interested in seeing the Real Group on February 25?  Buy a $1 ticket (or 6 for $5) for a special student raffle for a pair of tickets!

You can also bring in a Sing raffle donation—you will receive one ticket per donation!  Winner will be drawn at lunch on Friday, 2/15.

"SING" RAFFLE
We still have money to make this year!  Bring in a donation for the Sing raffle to help the choirs.  If each person brings just one item, we will have over 160 items to raffle off!

You don't have to bring an entire basket's worth of stuff, and you can bring in items for multiple different basket themes.  Check this link for the details:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0E49ABA82FAA8-2019

The Unsung Hero is someone who has selflessly gone above and beyond to help, inspire and be a positive example.

This week's unsung hero is Jozalynne Ortega, who sings in Choral Union.  Jozalynne works hard every day in class and has a great work ethic and attitude!
