Week of November 5, 2018

GRADES
Grades are being entered and will be uploaded on Monday.  There will be time during class to check grades; if you find something wrong, we will have time to fix it before the upload.

BIG BONE SINGERS!
For those interested in singing at the Annual Big Bone game (we will be singing the Lincoln Hymn; SJHA will handle the National Anthem and their own hymn), we will have our first practice on Tuesday at lunch in Room 91.  Anyone who wants to sing can sing regardless of which choir they are in! IMPORTANT: Please wear a black shirt as we will be taking a picture for the game program that day.

We will rehearse on 11/6, 13, and 20 ONLY.  You must attend all rehearsals in order to sing.

GRAMMAR/SPELLING/PARAGRAPH ASSESSMENT
On Tuesday/Wednesday, all classes will take a short assessment.  Be prepared to spell musical terms, analyze sentences for structure, and listen to/write a listening paragraph.  This assessment is being given to measure whether you are able to improve your writing skills before the end of the school year.

DRESSES
The first round of dresses has arrived!  I will schedule a couple of days for fittings next week; if you know your skirt or dress needs to be shortened, please keep your eye out for that signup.

THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK
This week, we will begin the second unit of our Music History study: The Baroque.  Please bring a highlighter to class on Monday; you will have time to highlight the handout and complete the Classmarker assignment during class.

MUSIC MAN CLOSES THIS WEEK!
There are a LOT of choir kids in our fall show, which opened on November 1 and runs through November 10.  Yes, it will work for your concert report!  In addition, if you fill out the extra credit form, you will be able to also earn 10 extra credit points!  Order your tickets here:  app.arts-people.com/index.php?ticketing=ltg01

Here is the extra credit form (must be completed by 11/16):

FALL 2018 PERFORMANCE REPORT
Remember, the paper copy of your report is due on December 10.  The report will be available for you to download beginning on Monday.  You must review a jazz, musical theater or classical performance.

There are LOTS of choices for you to review because it's the beginning of the holiday season.  Please ask if your performance is a good choice if you are not sure.

Look for more details in your class syllabus.

BLOG PEER EDIT:  FRIDAY 11/9
All classes will do the last of the five listenings on Tuesday.  We will grade a total of 5 blog posts on Friday, 11/9.

POINSETTIAS
How are you doing on your sales?  Don't forget, orders and payments are due THIS Thursday, 11/8.  Bring your order sheet and payments in an envelope with your name clearly marked on the envelope.  Don't forget to write your name on the order form too!

WINTERSONG
Buy your tickets to our Renaissance celebration on November 30 and December 1—$15 each!  Seating is limited, so make sure you buy early.  We will need lots of student help as well...more information coming soon!  Here's the link:  http://www.lincolnperformingarts.com/music-events-and-tickets.html

NYC TOUR
Our next payment was due on or before October 31!  There are a number of people who did not pay; please bring yours ASAP if you haven't already.  You can pay by PayPal if you wish: use the option to send money to lincolnhsmusicboosters@gmail.com.

THANK YOU
Thank you so much to the many people who stepped up last week in my absence to be kind and helpful.  My sister Eileen meant a great deal to our family and her loss was very unexpected.  I will be back next week.  While I am gone this week, do what you need to do to be good to each other and help each other out.--Ms. K

The Unsung Hero is someone who has selflessly gone above and beyond to help, inspire and be a positive example.

This week's unsung hero is Karen Nol, who sings in Bellissima.   Karen's sense of
hard work and commitment to excellence are an inspiration to everyone around her!
